Detroit rocker, Margaret Doll Rod spoke with Esthetic Lens recently. She shares her thoughts and feelings about quarantine, being alone, and her hopes about everyone being able to come together again. Her band, Demolition Doll Rods are set to release their first album in thirteen years, Into the Brave on October 16th, 2020 on In The Red Records.
1. How are you holding up?
Holding up pretty well; holding on and letting go. COVID19 has been a grand opportunity to discover gifts and strengths never imagined. Spending time alone is a whirlwind getaway/honeymoon with yourself until the mask goes on, and you bravely venture out to give and receive love in whatever way is required or possible. Hold on tight it is not the first time our juices have changed reality.
2. Has Covid-19 had an effect on your work? If so, in what way?
The whole world just kind of stopped and is slowly starting to spin again.
Into the Brave, is the name of our new (Demolition Doll Rods) album. This album, including the title, came to us before the pandemic started. When will we be able to share it with you?
October 16th, 2020.
3. Is there anything you’ve added to your practice that you’d like to keep after this is over?
Who knows when we will be able to sing dance play and share this music with you. What we do know is how grateful we are these songs came.
“With a lot of patience and gratitude, we will all shake our ways into the brave, and surrender to what it is we crave, and if we listen, we will know the way, ooh how I adore you.”
This is from one of new songs, and, is a mantra as we move through this experience. When you get to know us, you will know we’ve got to move; God willing from wherever we’re at, straight into your hearts…
4. Of the artists you follow, who is handling this particularly well?
Not sure how anyone else is handling this pandemic, as I am not a follower.
However, with all the love in my heart, I pray that we will come together and that we will all find our way.
A genie’s clapping hands and billowing sleeves silenced the crowd; reawakened from their slumber, like Cleopatra from her tomb stood three heavenly creatures…The Demolition Doll Rods. -Zöe Villegas
