A Rumi Cinepoem: Directed by Mary Livoni

A Great Wagon by Rumi, a cinepoem directed by Mary Livoni

This year marks the 25th anniversary of #nationalpoetrymonth.

The Academy of American Poets organized this celebration of poetry to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. It has risen in prominence and influence to become the largest literary celebration in the world. Learn more here

Every Thursday throughout April, I will be debuting a brand-new cinepoem inspired by the poetry that has sustained me over the years. I have expanded my vision to work more narratively and am grateful to the incredibly talented partners with whom it has been my honor to collaborate. The fourth video in my series is an excerpt from A Great Wagon, written by Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, from a translation by Coleman Barks.

More of Rumi’s poetry can be read here and here.
